Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since 1989, so 24 years this June
What is your primary product or service?
We do transmission repairs and rebuilding on Mercedes Benz vehicles only.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I rebuilt my first Mercedes trans in the mid-1980's while working at the Mercedes dealer in Newport Beach. I spent a total of 18 years at several dealers, went to Mercedes transmission training classes twice and worked exclusively on transmissions my laswt five years at the dealer in Buena Park before starting this business from scratch.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
The exclusive specialization, the adherence to Mercedes standards, and our striving to make an expensive repair as reasonable as possible. The wholesale customers we have garnered over the years rely on us for diagnostic expertise and prompt service, and our 24 month unlimited-mileage policy keeps them coming back.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Just the one location with plans only to maintain as we are.
Provide detailed directions to your location
We are in the city of Orange, at the corner of Angus Ave. and Batavia St., half way between Katella and Chapman.
What type of payments do you accept?
Cash, Check with proper I.D., Visa, Mastercard, and Discover
Which areas do you service?
We get customers from all over, but our wholesale business is in a 30 mile radius
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
My wife and I are sole proprietors, and I work alone most of the time.
What are your hours of operation?
8:30 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Friday.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
My favorite story was a customer with an old 300D with 600,000 miles on it who had the trans rebuilt every 150K, but my rebuild went to 800,000 miles, and when we were done, I wished him well and figured on seeing him at 1,000,000 miles, but the engine gave out and he didn't make the million mark.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
"No news is good news" so I rarely expect to hear from my customers, post-rebuild.
